Reimagining AV for a Leading Medical Center
The Situation
First impressions and reputations are everything when it comes to being recognized as a leading medical center. One major teaching hospital was experiencing ongoing challenges with their audiovisual systems, causing delays and inefficiencies throughout the facility. As a trusted institution for training the next generation of medical professionals, it was critical to address these issues quickly and effectively. Recognizing the importance of a reliable AV infrastructure, the hospital turned to TruConnect to deliver a modern, effective solution they could depend on.
The Challenge
The client’s rear-projection systems became increasingly unreliable and visually outdated. As the screen material began to fail, and with no replacement available, the image quality suffered. Brightness, clarity, and overall durability no longer met modern expectations, making presentations appear unprofessional and potentially leaving a negative impression on attendees and partners.
The space also lacked built-in video conferencing capabilities with no support for common platforms like Zoom or Microsoft Teams. Without this equipment, the client was forced to rent, patch together, or improvise solutions in order to hold virtual meetings. This created operational inefficiencies, technical difficulties, and increased costs when hosting hybrid or remote events.
Audio reliability and coverage was another area of concern. A single set of wireless microphone antennas were shared between rooms, leading to unreliable performance. Frequent dropouts and signal interference were common issues with this system. Inconsistent audio quality made it difficult for presenters to be heard clearly and increased the likelihood of communication breakdowns during significant meetings.
Lastly, the existing control systems relied on outdated, push-button interfaces that were not user-friendly. Non-technical users often struggled to operate the system without assistance, leading to delays, confusion, and an overall frustrating experience for both staff and external presenters.
The Solution
To modernize and enhance their communication capabilities, TruConnect’s AV team delivered a major technology upgrade across the hospital’s campus.
The project began with replacing the outdated rear projection systems. Five new 150-inch Direct View LED (dvLED) walls with 1920×1080 resolution 1.73mm pixel pitch, now run across the conference center’s large meeting rooms. Each videowall received a new equipment rack, housing signal distribution systems, wireless microphone receivers, and uninterrupted power supplies (UPS) were also replaced with a server-based DSP designed to support both current and future inputs and outputs.
Video Conferencing systems in four rooms were also upgraded to support modern conferencing platforms. Each room features wireless microphones—both handheld and lavalier—to expand voice capture, pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras for front and rear video coverage, and a new 7-inch touchscreen control panel installed at the lectern to replace the old controls. The upgraded audiovisual systems can all be managed from a centralized administrator workstation, allowing seamless functionality when rooms are used as separate spaces or combined for larger conferencing setups.

The Result
These upgrades to the medical center’s AV systems delivered major improvements with visual quality, conferencing capabilities, audio performance, system reliability, and the user experience. The replacement of outdated rear-projection systems with high-resolution, seamless Direct View LED walls delivered a dramatic improvement in image clarity, brightness, and reliability. This upgrade enhanced the hospital’s professional image during presentations and conferences to ensure better visibility for all participants.
Conferencing capabilities were fully modernized through the integration of software-based platforms, allowing the client to host hybrid meetings without relying on external AV setups. This led to increased flexibility, ensuring better collaboration with remote participants while cutting costs by eliminating the need for rental equipment.
Audio Performance also saw considerable improvements. Audio pickup and video coverage were greatly improved for local and remote audiences with the addition of:
-
- new wireless microphones
- antenna distribution
- PTZ cameras
The hospital saw higher quality conference calls and events, better participant engagement, and fewer technical issues like dropouts or dead spots.
Combined with an updated DSP backbone, streamlined touch panel controls, and UPS power backups, the system is not only more stable but also easier to operate, allowing users to operate without needing technical assistance.
The upgraded AV infrastructure has also positioned the Conference Center as a valuable asset for the community. With the enhanced system, the hospital can confidently offer this space to local and community organizations for external events.
